Our story: The one with Uncle Don
The story of Houghton Hams begins with Nigel Wagstaff’s uncle, Don.
Uncle Don worked in farming his whole life – initially pig farming before dairy farming in his later years.
And he inherited Grove Farm in Moulton, Northampton, in the 1970s.
It was during this time that Uncle Don introduced his nephew Nigel to the farming life.
Nigel worked the land and reared the animals at the weekend.
Then, during the week, he would help his father (Grandad Wagstaff) who was the local butcher.
Working as a Butcher’s Boy, Nigel delivered his rounds to the local community on his push bike.
Uncle Don sold Grove Farm to pursue his love of farming in Devon but this period left a lasting impression on Nigel.
With his experience in farming and butchery, and the acquisition of their secret recipe, ‘the Wagstaff complete cure’…
Nigel had everything he needed to set up a business producing high-quality meat product
