Own Label Options
Houghton Hams recognizes that not all of its potential or existing customers wish to sell their products under the Houghton brand. The Company is more than happy to facilitate all labeling as required by law and use either customer packaging or leave space for all relevant information to be added on arrival at next point of purchase. Many of our customers have a complete range of own label products that have become integral to our business.
Low Salt Hams
With much media attention towards reducing salt levels in our diet we have developed a reduced salt ham still with the same great Houghton Ham’s flavour. The Government Target for 2017 in ham is 1.63g of Salt. Houghton Hams reduced this by a further 30% of salt to create our reduced salt ham. Our reduced salt range is available in catering and retail pack sizes.
Niche Products
Houghton Hams has always been receptive to its existing and potential customers requirements. The Directors support the initiative that all business is a valued commodity. Developing both new and unique products that require a commitment and close working partnership should lead to a stronger alliance in the future. Many of our existing customers come to us with this proposal.
600g Food Service Packs
Our Food Service customers have formed the nucleus of our business over our twenty eight trading years. Our clients include National Cash and Carry groups and both National and Regional Foodservice and Van-sales operations. Houghton Hams in most cases has direct contact with the customer, but this may vary as in the case of the Olympics where the caterer has requested our product, and has instructed food service to be the logistical wheels.
Tasting is Believing
Houghton Hams launched their ‘Tasting is Believing’ range four years ago with their British Northamtonshire Cured Ham sourced from regional farms. The Company added a Breaded and Honey Roast to the range and subsequently a Wiltshire Cured product followed. The three slice 150g product has been extremely successful and can be found regionally in Asda, East Midland Co-op and Waitrose. A comprehensive range of our products can also be found on line with Ocado.
Northamptonshire Cure
n 1983 when Jo and Nigel Wagstaff started trading as Houghton Hams the Company was fortunate to be given the old Ham Cure that had previously been used by Nigel’s former cooked meat employer Buswells then later Dalgety Meats. The Cure is now unique to Houghton Hams and is manufactured under license as Wagstaff complete cure. The Company is proud to advertise its enhanced flavoring within its ham range and Gammon and Gammon Steaks.
Dry Cure Bacon & Hams
Within our uncooked range we have both Gammons and Bacon. The Gammon range can be primal or sliced into a variety of gammon steaks. The Bacon can be middles backs or streaks or alternatively sliced into catering or retail packs. We are looking to supply the Olympics with a number of products where there is a requirement for an amount of dry cured bacon. The Company is developing a range of retail packs of Bacon under its own brand with the hook being ‘Bacon like it used to taste’ The three main dry cures available are Traditional Dry Cure, Smoked Dry Cure, and Sweet Dry Cure.
100g-125g Retail Packs
Houghton Hams has recently introduced a new Corporate identity and related packaging and labeling to coincide with this initiative. This decision has prompted us to look at potential business from a new pack with smaller dimensions. This effectively can give the customer more product lines on the shelf thus more projected sales. The concept will not necessarily be best suited to Traditional Ham but will give the option for our smaller faced product that is ideal for portion control. This packaging will be utilized to launch our Shredded Ham, Diced Ham, and Pulled Pork range.
Microwaveable Bacon
We introduced our innovative new Microwaveable Bacon back in 2019 using our original dry cured recipe. This convenient new line can be cooked in the microwave in as little as 90 seconds, saving on time and mess in the kitchen.
